My earliest memory of Cromer’s is when I was about 5 years old. On a Sunday afternoon, my granddaddy, Julian Cromer, brought my family over to Columbia and opened the front door of 1235 Assembly Street. He said this is where he was moving the business since the open air Farmers’ Market, down the middle of Assembly Street, was moving out to Bluff Road. It was an empty building that would soon have the aroma of boiling and roasting peanuts wafting out the doors.
