Make Your Own Peanut Butter

January 23, 2012

Happy National Peanut Butter Day!  To celebrate, we are sharing a simple recipe to make your own peanut butter at home.

It may not be perfectly smooth, but you will know that you will be eating, sharing and giving to your kids a delicious, natural alternative to all of those hydrogenated oils, sugars and sodium.

2 cups of Cromer's unshelled roasted, unsalted peanuts
1 tbsp peanut oil (depends on the speed of your food processor)
Salt to taste

Shell your peanuts.  It is a little extra work, but the freshes, most unadulterated peanuts (like any vegetable) get to you the freshest in their most original state - right out of the ground!

Put your peanuts into a food processor.  Begin to process until they break down into the consistency you want.  If they are still thicker than you'd like, add a drizzle of peanut oil, up to about a tablespoon's worth.  Conttinue to blend.

When it is the consistency you want, add your salt and mix and taste until it is perfect.

Store in an airtight resealable container in your refigerator for a week, week and a half max; remember, this has no preservatives so you must enjoy it quickly!

Spread on sandwiches, make celery boats or use in thai-inspired dipping sauces.  Long story short - enjoy!
